The Irish Oatmeal Soda Bread is a traditional quick bread that may be prepared in less than an hour.
– 3 cups all purpose flour – 1 cup oat flour – 1 tsp salt – 1 tsp baking soda – 1 3/4 cups buttermilk (possibly a little bit more)
Set oven to 425F Mix the flours, salt, and soda in a large bowl. Put 1 1/2 cups of buttermilk in the center of the well.
If the dough seems dry, add more buttermilk as you mix the flour and buttermilk. Dough will be tough.
Knead the dough slightly on a floured surface until it comes together. Round into an 8-inch disk. A sharp knife should cut a cross in the top of the baking sheet.
Bake till golden brown, 25–30 minutes. If you tap the bottom, it should sound hollow. After cooling for a few minutes, serve it warm with nice Irish butter.
