Pasta Pomodoro

Traditional Italian Pasta Pomodoro only takes 35 minutes and a few simple ingredients! Spaghetti with a delicious sauce of ripe tomatoes, garlic, and basil simmered in rich butter and olive oil.   

1 pound spaghetti 2 tablespoons butter 2 tablespoons olive oil 1 large onion 4 cloves garlic 4 cups tomatoes salt and pepper to taste 1 teaspoon sugar ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes ¼ cup fresh basil ½ cup Parmesan cheese

Follow package instructions to cook spaghetti. Reserve 1 cup of pasta water and drain spaghetti. Pasta pomodoro process shots.

Meanwhile, heat butter and oil in a large Dutch oven on medium. Add onion and cook for 5 minutes to soften.

Add garlic and cook 30 seconds until fragrant. Pasta pomodoro process shots. Add tomatoes, salt, pepper, sugar, and red pepper flakes.

To break down the tomato, cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Lower heat and simmer 15 minutes.

Pasta pomodoro process shots. Mix in basil. Add cooked spaghetti and half the pasta water. Mix everything well.

Increase pasta water if needed. Pasta pomodoro process shots. Garnish with Parmesan and basil.
