We love simple one-pan meals. We always make this fried cabbage and sausage recipe. With simple ingredients, sausage and seasonings, cabbage is cooked until soft but crunchy.
– ½ pound seasoned sausage– 3 ½ cups green cabbage– salt and black pepper to taste – 1-2 tablespoons cooking oil– 1 teaspoon brown sugar– A splash of water– 2 teaspoon butter
Ingredient
Direction
To fry, cut cabbage into thicker slices with a sharp knife. Or cut the cabbage into larger cubes. To make thick slices, cut the cabbage in half and remove the core.
1
Slice one half into 1 ½ inch thick pieces. For cabbages too wide like mine, I cut the longer slices in half later. Slice it into thick cubes instead.
2
Sliced cabbage can be sautéed or fried. Brown sliced sausage in a large skillet over medium-high heat with oil. Remove to sideplate.
3
If there are too many browned bits, use a paper towel to remove them before deglazing the skillet with water. Add some oil, chopped cabbage, salt, pepper, and sugar.
4
Add a few splashes of warm water or broth if needed. Just to expedite. We want cabbage to be crunchy, not soft.
5
Taste and add seasoned salt, creole seasoning, garlic powder, cajun seasoning, or a garlic clove if needed. Stir in butter until melted.
6
Return the sausages and simmer for two more minutes. Sprinkle with fresh parsley and serve as a side or main course with rice, potatoes, or salad.
