Family and friends get together to eat French bread pizza, which you can make at home in minutes.
– 1 lb loaf of French bread (baguette style) – 4 Tbsp soft butter – granulated garlic or garlic powder (you can also used fresh garlic) – 1 cup pizza sauce, more or less to taste. – 12 ounces shredded mozzarella cheese (you can also use a blend of Italian cheeses.) TOPPING IDEAS – mushrooms, sliced – pineapple and ham – anchovies and banana pepper – olives and slivered red onion – jalapeño and pimento – cherry tomatoes and basil – sausage and bell pepper – pepperoni – Italian herb seasoning
Preheat oven to 400F. Cut a fresh French loaf in half crosswise using a serrated bread knife. Cut each half lengthwise to produce four flat pizza bases.
Slice bread just when ready to create pizzas to avoid drying. Spread mild butter on bread. Sprinkle granulated garlic (or Italian herb combination) on toast.
This needs 5 minutes of 400F oven toasting. This step matters. Toasting the bread prevents pizza sauce sogginess.
For a garlicky taste, scrape the cut side of a garlic clove across toasted bread. Spread sauce on bread tops.
Only apply a thin coating. You can skip this. Overload bread with cheese. I mound it because it melts and shrinks.
Press your toppings into the cheese to prevent them from falling off. Bake at 400F for 10-15 minutes. All we want is bubbling and browned. Slice and serve!
