Cheese Danish Recipe 

Thick Brush Stroke

The inside of a cheese danish is rich and creamy, and the outside is crispy and buttery. This recipe is very simple because it starts with puff pastry from the store.

FOR THE PASTRIES: – 8 ounces (226g) cream cheese, softened – 1/3 cup (67g) granulated sugar – 1 large egg, separated – 1 teaspoon lemon juice – 1 teaspoon vanilla extract – 1 (17.3 ounce/490g) package puff pastry sheet FOR THE GLAZE: – 3/4 cup (83g) confectioners’ sugar – 1-2 tablespoons milk or heavy cream – 1/4 teaspoon vanilla bean paste or vanilla extract

TO MAKE THE BREAD: Warm the oven up to 400°F. Use silicone or parchment paper to line two baking sheets.

Add the sugar, egg yolk, lemon juice, and vanilla to an electric mixer and set it to medium speed. Beat the mixture until it is smooth.

One puff pastry sheet should be rolled out to about a 10-inch square. Make 9 squares out of it. Place the pieces in the pan that has been prepared.

Step 3

Dock the dough with a fork, leaving a 1-and-a-half-inch edge. Fork holes don't have to go all the way through; just a few are enough.

Step 4

Use the egg white to brush each of the pastries. Cover every square with a small amount of the cream cheese mix.

It will spread out as it bakes if you put it right in the middle. Bake the cakes for 12 to 16 minutes, or until they are just beginning to brown. Set the pans on wire racks to cool down. You can serve it hot or cold.

HOW TO MAKE THE GLAZE: Add 1 tablespoon of milk or cream, vanilla, and the confectioners' sugar. Mix them together.

Step 7

A little at a time, add more milk or cream until the glaze is thick but still easy to pour. Before you serve the cakes, drizzle the glaze over them.
